Strip-Con 2012 Report!

sdfsdjflasdkjflaskdjf Oh my god yesterday was awesome.

I want to thank everyone I met for being so awesome, thanks to all the people who bought things at my table, thanks to the people who purchased my art from the art auction, and just thanks to everyone involved in the con; artists, fans, and the guys who ran the show and made it all happen! It was a great experience.

THE DAY:

Got there a little before 9 a.m. with Hannah K to set up. I feel like we got there too early because it was only us and like 5 others. Lol but it was still exciting!

Team ‘Box’ got to sit between Mr. Fes from Fesworks, LLC and the Texas Game Masters. They were cool! I even got interviewed by Fes for his podcast! Super cool!

Then it was panel time! I had a panel at 11:25 a.m. called ‘I love Webcomics!’ It was super cool. I was the only girl. Ha. I was accompanied in this panel by Mark Largent from Wannabe Pirates, Chris Jeffery from Cartridge, and Mark Stokes from Zombie Boy. It was such a cool group to be with. All of us have been drawing for some time and appreciate the online comic world. We talked about the development of our comics, how we discovered the webcomic world, and keep on going with our comics. It was really cool to hear everyone’s comic story and share our knowledge to all those present at the panel.

Then it was back to the table and back to work! Sold a good amount of items and met a lot of new people, readers and artists. In my downtime, I started on an art piece for the art auction that was taking place later in the evening.

Then the con was winding down at 5 and we packed it up, went to get some dinner, then headed back to the hotel for the art auction. The proceeds of the auction would go to The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children . It’s a really good cause and there are pretty cool original works up for bid.

So me Hannah K, and my friends Daniel, and Iris joined us for this auction. We all ended up drawing around the table. They were doing live time sketching which was fun. Everyone drew the model for a certain time. It started at two minutes, then five, then twenty. I would do all the twenty minute sketches so I could put them in the auction because Lord knows I can’t draw something cool in under five minutes. Lol.

So I put all those sketches for auction as well as the Bob’s Burgers piece and a couple of other doodles. My art made $48 all together for the charity so I felt great! I’m happy people bought my work!

Then it was time for the drive home. I was about to crash at the hotel in the auction room. Ha. All in all, twas a good con. Definitely hoping to  go back for a third year.

No AM2012 for us.

Sorry guys, but we’ll be withdrawing from the Anime Matsuri 2012 Artist Alley. Funding and scheduling problems got the best of us so we decided to give up our spot for someone else.

Don’t worry, we’ll try again next year!

We’ll still be part of Digi-Con though!

STRIP-Con 2011

Spent the weekend in Plano, Texas for STRIP – The Dallas Webcomics Expo! AND I HAD A TON OF FUN.

So I set up my table and sat there trying not to look totally lost and just started drawing. (Cryanide and Happiness was across the way, and if you know me, you can probably guess that I pretty much freaked when they entered the building.) It didn’t get too crazy until an hour and a half-ish after the doors opened.

Then I got people coming up to the table looking around and whatnot. And then my boy bestie, Daniel (who appears in the comic regularly) came with his girlfriend, Iris to spend the day at the con. So he was dubbed my spokesmodel for the day and went around spreading the word of Elia in a Box.

So then with that, more people came by and I drew a good amount of people in my comic form and in crayon! And they were all such friendly people which was awesome! (I forgot to take a couple of people’s pictures but I think I got enough for you to see what was up. Ha.)

Then around the 3:30 time I left my table for a bit to participate in an all-woman panel ‘Women of Webcomics’ (WoW) and was accompanied by Rebecca Hicks (Little Vampires), Emily Karnes (Complex Actions), Halo Seraphim (ShoNuff Studios), & Samantha Wikan (Life’s a Witch).
It was pretty cool. We answered some questions for about an hour and I learned some stuff myself from my fellow female comic artists about the webcomic world that would help me in the future.

Then I went back to my table and finished the convention day out with a couple more drawings and some mini print sales and then packed up the table and went to dinner with the bestie and family.

Then we headed back to the hotel where the con was at to attend the 70s & 80s Retro Jam where there would be artists drawing live artwork to be auctioned off with the proceeds going to The Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children . So I decided to draw something to contribute. I did a black and white ink drawing of Disney Princesses in my style and then jokingly drew the Emcee/Auctioneer in my comic form as well and it sold too. So I was glad that they were sold for a good cause.

The auction went until a little after 10. Then the friends parted ways and I went back to the room to sleep.

And that was ‘Elia in a Box’s STRIP-Con adventure! I hope I attend again next year! Thanks to all who came by my table and to all the staff and fellow comic artists who made my first convention as an exhibitor an AWESOME experience.

News, news, and more news!

It’s been long since I’ve updated this! Sorry about that!

Well we have some good news! Aside from Anime Matsuri, I will be appearing at Strip-Con in Dallas this August! Too excited! I will have a half-table so come say hi, bring me iced coffee, and I can draw you in my comic form!

Also, the ‘Never shank a baby’ items in our store, will stop being sold this Saturday, June 25th so we can get the final orders in. I’ve put it off a month now due to many reasons and so this time if you don’t order in time, your chance is gone! DON’T LET YOUR CHANCE BE GONE!

Commission orders are back on the site! Want custom art?! OR SOMETHING?!?! Just visit the commission page for order and pricing details and hopefully I can make something happen!

I think that’s all for now! Keep reading and keep smiling everyone!
